I always look at feedback for the seller. Also look at how long they have been on Ebay.

A relative newcomer with a 100% feedback is not reliable. But feedback less than %100 is also not reliable you need to read what the complaints have been. Very often they are from a very stupid or ungracious ebayer.

I had one buyer recently accuse me of sending used merchandise. Since I had not opened the carton to check, I refunded the money, but I did ask for it to be shipped back so I might get back some of my money. They did not comply but I also did not ding them with a bad rating.

Never buy anything except by credit card. With the credit card you have a LOT of rights with respect to undelivered or unsatisfactory merchandise. While credit cards cost something (3% or more) to process, and not everyone can get a merchant account (particularly not mail order houses because of the large number of charge-backs), Paypal is an alternative.

I would be very suspicious of any commercial enterprise that does not accept Paypal, and would not deal with one. In fact, I doubt I would deal with an individual who does not accept paypal. Of the alternatives only personal checks are not expensive to the buyer, but many sellers will hold personal checks for 10 days to 2 weeks (sometimes more) to wait for them to clear. (I believe there are some Federal Trade Commission rules on this. www.ftc.gov ) I make a point of not dealing with mail order houses that do not accept credit cards.
