Odd you should ask since I was just discussing this $250 camera on
another list. It says it will do 5MP stills.

Actually, any newer HD format camcorder will do better stills than the
old SD cameras.

PS "dpi" is a printing term, not _really_ relative to either stills or video.

Except when you want to print them, then DPI and pixels are *really* important!

A friend of mine bought a _Canon PowerShot TX1_ recently. It's a still camera that also captures HD movies--very impressive, excellent both for video and stills. I'd definitely consider a combination like this for my next camera. I used my Nikon still camera in November to take videos of a dance competition. It was pretty good, but didn't compare to the quality of our Canon Elura. The TX1 is the closest so far to combine good qualities of both formats, and it fits in your pocket [but it's heavy for its tiny size].

Canon sez:

*First of Its Kind*
"With the PowerShot TX1, Canon takes a futuristic wish-list and makes it a reality. This is an ELPH-sized camera with a whopping 10x optical zoom that not only captures 7.1 megapixel images, but HD movies, too! The stylish vertical design in stainless steel houses plenty of premium advancements including Optical Image Stabilizer Technology, DIGIC III Image Processor, Face Detection Technology and Red-eye Correction. And because you'll want to take this compact wonder everywhere, it's equipped with a built-in lens cover and tough new scratch-resistant, anti-reflective coating on the LCD screen." http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=144&modelid=14903

My friend sent me a video that was taken on the TX1 and converted for YouTube:

Quality is good considering it's been compressed and converted.

David, this may be the best camera for your needs. I want one!!
