I forgot to mention the variable, camcorder-like LCD screen that the Canon
has.  It can fold into the camera altogether and present the plastic back of
the screen, letting you use only the view finder.  

I liked that feature over the fixed screen on the Panasonic.  It helps
protect the screen and I could have used it this past year a few times, when
crowds prevented me from taking a straight shot and I needed to hold the
camera over the crowd.  I had to guess and missed the shot more often than I
got it.
