Apple has 3 video applications for the Mac. iMovie, Final Cut Express, and Final Cut Pro, essentially small, medium, and large. You may find that the iLife suite, which contains both iMovie and GarageBand (a great tool for audio editing), is all you need. That would save you some money. As your interest and needs grow you can move up to FCE.
