If any trace of adhesive remains on the disc, I would back it up using a
tray-loading CD computer, then pitch it. Unfortunately, many of the solvents
used to remove the adhesive could adversely affect the CD too.

Subject: [CGUYS] Odd paper CD label question

When a contractor burned some data CD's for the organization I work for,
he put paper labels on the CD's. I didn't realize how stupid this was
until I tried to take one of the CD's out of a slot-loading iMac and it
wouldn't eject. The computer had to be taken apart to remove the
CD--and the label, which had come unstuck in the drive. (Fortunately,
the computer's CD drive still worked after the "operation.")

Has anyone else had this problem? Did you salvage the CD's or just
chuck them into the circular file?

I had thought of trying to remove the labels, but I didn't know if there
were any solvents that I could use that wouldn't damage the CD, and
removing the labels might leave an uneven or rough surface that would
prevent the CD from playing properly or that could damage the drive.

Fortunately, most of the data on the CD's is backed up elsewhere, but it
would be very convenient if I could still use those CD's.
