>Intrusive security is far better than none.

Why do you think this is true? Is this one of those truths that are so obvious that nobody notices its falsity?

How about: Security theater is a waste of money.

Intrusive security is no security. You need to be protected from the TSA.

Security isn't much better now than it was 10 years ago when they could just grab suspicious looking passengers and take them aside. Machines, dogs, cameras, multiple agents, bare feet, confiscating my water bottle or can of soda, don't make us much safer. I had two kilos of cheese almost confiscated in London a few years ago, until an agent offered to have it shipped directly to my house so it wouldn't be with my luggage--it arrived OK a week later. But I've managed to take a Swiss Army knife through security almost everywhere except BWI. Why don't they confiscate dangerous things like stiletto pens? Steve Wozniak carries a sharpened credit card with him--sharp enough to cut his steak dinner. No more credit cards? Nude airlines are next, just like in a recent TV commercial.

If security is so much improved, why can we still profit so much from disaster travel bargains? There's still guns, knives, bombs, etc. found on planes, often in carryons. What companies profit from all the so-called security??
