My 2 cents. I'm of two minds on this issue. I don't really see the
difference with the government enforcing unlocked luggage for their
examination (a warrantless search, by the way) and unlocked PCs and data
for the same purpose.
Of course, this is silly anyway. Any terrorist worth his salt would not
carry his data in on a PC, but, once in the country, download it from
overseas.
As has been touched on in this thread, many of the rules are not
meaningful security measures, but a front to make the traveling public
THINK they are being made safe.
And final thought: our shoes are all examined because Richard Reid
placed his plastique in his shoe. Just imagine the passenger
examinations if he had placed it where the sun don't shine.
