The transformer is actually your power supply.

Most laptops have a power supply that is also a power transformer that converts 120-240 VAC into 18 (aprox.) VDC which then plugs into your laptop.

You can buy the plug adapters (which is what they are) at most big box store along with Radio shack and others.

Notice these are only plug adapters. If you want to use any other equipment you will need a transformer. (Or as someone suggested car plug ins)

IGO makes a line of adapters that is really handy. You buy one adapter then you buy multiple tips for all your appliances. I have one in the car for my bluetooth, and two different phones. I even bought a spliter which allows me to charge two devices from one plug in.

Dan,
I am going to Spain next month (240v). I noticed my tiny Toshiba power supply says input: 100-240 volts, output: 19v. Are you saying that I do NOT need a step-down transformer? How does the transformer detect and switch modes?
