I don't understand what " The downside: The software is routinely after
you to 'upload' your tree to their servers so they can resell your
information." means.
How do you upload a tree without having the software to create it with?
Can you explain?

I use Family Tree Maker.. one of the earliest to have solid
support for pictures, creates huge all-in-one tree on any printer (you
might find yourself splicing together dozens of pages), and it handles
most anything you can throw at it without having to call tech support
and without digging through the manuals (only exception.. married
cousins... but it can do it!). It is a favorite in the Genealogy
forums that I frequent.
The downside: The software is routinely after you to 'upload' your
tree to their servers so they can resell your information. This was
true before Ancestry.com bought them, and I am sure that it is worse
now. This is the fastest way to propagate bad or erroneous
information around the world.
