Tom -
Tell us about "recent discoveries", or give us a link. The digital vs film thing is ultimately tiresome. Unlike Rocky Lee's magnificent discourse, people tend fall into ideological argument, rather than address the useful features of each. For some, yielding ground seems a loss of face. For me, the DX sensor is adequate only for screen-quality images, webpostings, small prints, limited annual report imagery. When I need 5'x5' display prints, 6x6cm film is the only choice. Unless, of course, one were to lay out 15grand+ for a digital back, not my league. And that's just the simple entry point, the subtleties of each medium are complex. The increased availability of FX sensors will answer lots of my reluctance to use DX. As you've often said, this is a far larger topic than can be covered adequately within short msgs. Check this: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/filmdig.htm As to "over-shooting": even holding down the shutter-release does not guarantee capture of Cartier-Bresson's "decisive moment", that exact image one hopes for, and which can occur even at the interstices of 6fps rambo shooting. Despite all the technical zapology, it's still the mind behind the camera and correct use of light that count most.
