Delete those cells by deleting entire rows and columns, by selecting entire rows and columns and using the "delete" command on the "edit" menu. Immediately save the workbook and exit it. When you re-open the workbook, those active cells will be gone. Works in Excel 2000 and should work in other versions (I hope).
