Household diagram not what I am asking for.
I am looking to see what folks might have used themselves to
accomplish similar goals - no different than the frequent "how do I
accomplish goal X" questions on the list.
I know how to do any of the things I have asked from a technical
standpoint, but have not used any of the current generation of
interfaces, etc. Some here might have.
Oh, and the suggestion of contacting Comcast for a whole house
solution is at best laughable. I will charitably assume you were not
attempting a serious reply.

Nobody on the list is going to be able to draw you a diagram how to
rig up your whole house. Contact your TV provider for those solutions,
and expect to pay well for the service.

Comcast digital cable - the only broadband choice here in the

The ability to record and watch on my own schedule HD programing
acquired
via Comcast cable, DVD, or downloaded, upstairs.
The ability to shove some of it downstairs (in standard def) for
the kids
- they don't get to pull it.
The ability to record said programming.
What I think I want:
Something like an Apple TV to manage the downstairs push or to
enable
later additional screens - I like "it just works" appliances - I
spend far
too much time at work with my head in the software guts of
enterprise stuff
to want to tinker at home.
With the maze of stuff that is out there today, how do I get where
I want
to go?
