Most Windows users that I know are, in fact, as well as in their
own words, afraid to switch to another operating system. Or, as they
will typically put it, "I don't know anything about Macs." Bear in
mind here that these same folks don't know much of anything about
their Windows machines either, or even about computers in general.
Their expressions of ignorance about the intricacies of the Mac OS is
a red herring that masks fears that they would rather not express
outright.
