I figured I'd throw this out to the Tivo devotees and see if anyone has either heard of this or has a possible solution.
I've got a Tivo Series II DVR and DirecTV and Comcast basic. Sometimes, when I go to watch a program that should have been recorded by Tivo, I get the bouncing 721 message. 721 means you haven't purchased the channel. Except, I have. The information I get from Tivo shows it thinks I'm on the correct channel (that I normally receive) but nothing records. I called DirecTV about it (just about every month for close to a year) and finally got someone who saw I had the home service plan and sent my call off to a group that said they would look into it. After a few weeks, they called back and said they couldn't find a problem with the signal being sent to my receiver but to call them back to schedule a tech to come out to replace the DirecTV box (that'd be my 4th box and make sure everything was connected correctly (it is)). Except I was out of town on business and figured it could wait until I got back to call. Apparently DirecTV doesn't think so as they closed the ticket and no amount of anything got them to agree to reopen the ticket, so now I have to go back through *all* the BS stuff to get them to even listen to me. I've been putting that off since it was just so much fun all the other times. But what I noticed last night is the Tivo was set to record Channel 249 and it thinks it did. But when the program started to play back, I saw it had instead tuned in Channel 649 and I got the bouncing 721 message. I've also had a problem where I've tried to change channels through the guide (highlight a show and press <select>) but instead of changing to say channel 296, it changes to 9 or 2, 6, 29, or 96. When I've called Tivo about it, they've been receptive but not very helpful - suggesting I need to reposition the IR sensors, but that doesn't resolve the problem. Has anyone else had anything like this happen? Is there any luck or secret to get DirecTV or Tivo to actually want to resolve a problem?
