Older iMac G5 with modem on the fritz. I have some friends with a first generation iMac G5 and the modem has gone south. I believe it is integrated on the motherboard, so i'm looking at alternatives.
I believe the most cost effective option to be an Airport Extreme basestation off of ebay for $60.00 shipped. Use the basestation to dial up earthlink and then connect it to the iMac by ethernet. I know that Apple currently has a USB modem for $50.00 and that you can also purchase an older USB modem models used on ebay for $20.00 to $30.00. Those modems usually specify that they require an ibook or mac-whatever model with no built-in modem. Just wondering however, if there is anything in Mac OS X that would prevent you from using an Apple labled USB modem with any Mac running OS X, even with a built in modem? Thanks, Rocky ************************************************************************* ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *************************************************************************
