At the risk of starting a whole new debate, I did want to disagree with this bit. At least one of the models is available for download. Search for CCSM (Community Climate System Model). I was able to download v3.0 of their model source code (a mixture of C and Fortran 90) and their input data. It also comes with a nice 70-page user guide for how it works. I haven't yet had the time to go through it and run some tests, but I plan to "real soon now". I mainly did this just to read the source code to see what parts of our planet were being modeled and how.
