First did he install the printer as his default printer?  2nd, did USB
support for the printer go away after he rebooted?  Often with win98,
USB was problematical to put it mildly.

To be systematic, I'ld reinstall the USB drivers first, then the printer
drivers, then try printing from something like Notepad.  I suspect this
will be a repeated ritual as long as USB printing and Win98 go together.
