I'm wondering if Amazon could have possibly handled this more badly. This is
the stuff of amateur hour.

What was so hard about sending these Kindle owners an email, telling them
about this problem and giving them instructions on how to switch out to the
"legal" copy.  If you don't do this by a certain date, *then* Amazon will
pull it and refund your money.

Even more disturbing is that they *can* do this, legally or not.
