I realize that there are plenty of folks who, for whatever reason, want to keep their personal computers fully running on all cylinders at all times, never turning anything off or allowing any components go to "sleep" ever. Do these folks leave their cars idling overnight? TV always turned on 24 hours a day?
In the non-Windows world 24/7 is normal. UNIX-based systems are not intended to be turned off. This caused some grief in the early days of OS X if Macs were turned off when clean-up scripts ran in the middle of the night. Recent versions of the OS will run these utilities at startup if they were not run overnight.
