Yes, this is why I usually recommend formatting and installing the OS clean once any compromise takes place. I mean, who wants that nagging feeling that everything you type is being sent to east europeans?
Of course, as has already been pointed out, this presupposes that you have a good backup strategy in place. But then if you don't, you're only screwing yourself, it's only a matter of when.
