Indeed, Mary Landreau of Louisiana said, about 6 months ago, that although some accidents and spills were probably going to happen if a lot of new off-shore drilling began to take place, those spills and accidents and the potential for disasters would probably be offset by the benefits to the states from said drilling. I do not know how a disaster such as we are now seeing will be offset by money made from the selling of oil. You cannot have oil drilling off-shore without without accidents, spills and likely occasional disastrous consequences. That's just the way it is, and no amount of hype and happy talk will make it any different.
