Frank: It's not bravery. It's just being very happy with my life and my family and my job. But if I were a young law graduate seeking a job in academia, I don't think I would list the Boy Scouts or any Christian organizations on my resume. And I certainly wouldn't write my law review casenote from a point of view that opposed gay rights or same-sex marriage or the reasoning of the majority in Lawrence. Evans, 72 Notre Dame L.Rev. 345 (1997). If you equate traditional views about human sexuality with racism, then logic leads you to treat "homophobes" the same way you treat racists. And we don't treat racists very well in modern America. We allow them to exist, but we don't hire them or wish to live next door to them or value their institutions. If private homophobis equals racism, then Roman Catholicism and most of Christianity are gutter religions that must be discredited and driven to the margins, as Prof. Yackle put it so bluntly.
