Hydrocarbon solvents, like Fisher petroleum benzine, with the CAS Registry number 64742-89-8. are light aliphatic hydrotreated naphthas that comply with one of the (several) ASTM specifications for VM&P Naptha. If you can find a supplier of a good quality VM&P Naphtha HT, then, that should serve as a near-identical substitute. The Eastern US conservation suppliers don't seem to stock it, but you might find a supplier for other markets. For example, I see that in NYC you can get VM&P naphtha from Tridon Chemicals, in 5 gallon pails. You want to make sure thought that it's the hydrotreated variety (HT) that is essentially free of aromatics.

We currently buy from several vendors and are looking for Benzine/Petroleum Naphtha similar to ours with a CAS no. -64742-89-8. Fisher only sells this in a size far too big for us to store and we have had issues in getting timely service elsewhere. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Alternately, if anyone in the NYC area would want to share the contents of a 20L drum from Fisher with us, please let me know.
