Hi all,

Apologies for any cross posting.

I am a history curator at Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums and currently
studying for a distance learning MA in Preventive Conservation at Northumbria
University. At the museum we are currently involved in a large -scale move of
our collections to a new store in the city. Our pharmacy collection, which
numbers over 1200 glass and around 200 ceramic containers, needs to be moved as
part of this. While planning the move I found it quite difficult to find
comprehensive advice and guidance readily available on this subject.

As a result my research project is based on pharmaceutical collections in
heritage institutions, primarily exploring how these are stored and packed for
transit. I am particularly interested in how glass and ceramic objects that
still contain their original contents are stored and transported as we have a
great many of these in the collection.

While the survey is aimed at those with pharmaceutical collections, input from
those with similar objects with significant contents would be much appreciated,
for example wet specimens in natural history collections, or foodstuffs still
in their packaging. If you could pass this onto any relevant colleagues I would
be extremely grateful.

This survey should take around 5 minutes to complete and is anonymous, but if
you would like to get in contact with more information please get in touch at
[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Kind regards,
