Bath Record Office (Bath & NE Somerset Council, UK) is looking for a qualified archive conservator to work on a project funded by the Wellcome Trust. Part-time (18.5 hours per week) for 21 months, from 1 September 2018. The project will catalogue and conserve two collections: a small 18th and early 19th collection of volumes and papers, and a larger complex collection relating to Bath Waterworks including volumes, deeds, papers, maps and plans, and 20th c papers. Most of the conservation work will be preventative, with a focus on cleaning, unfolding documents and packaging, but there will be some remedial work, particularly of maps.
The post is suitable for a newly-qualified conservator. The Record Office does not currently have a conservator and the successful candidate must be happy to work independently with minimal supervision, although some regular supervision and advice will be provided by an experienced accredited conservator on a consultancy basis. The post-holder will also be expected to train and supervise a small number of volunteers, to assist with cleaning and packaging. Closing date for applications is midnight Sunday 15 July. Interviews on Tuesday 7 August. We apologise for the long delay between the closing and interview dates, which is due to staff holidays.
