I have just started repairing some wax seals from our archives. This has gone
well on small repairs using pure beeswax, however I'm having trouble combining
beeswax and resin for use on larger repairs. Following instructions, I am
heating the beeswax in a small pan on a hot plate until 'wispy', taking it off
the heat and then adding resin which has been powdered using a pestle and
mortar. The resin melts to a point where it goes incredibly tacky and sticks
together in clumps and to the stirring rod. I can not get the two materials to
combine despite trying different temperatures, stirring quickly and even making
a paste out of the resin and beeswax first. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated. I am using 92% beeswax and 8% resin.
