I wanted to report that the journals I offered on this distlist garnered a
tremendous amount of interest. Over twenty people responded to my offer,
with at least ten Americans representing seven states and eight others
representing seven countries from all over the world, including Serbia,
Canada, Brazil, Belgium, Malt and Wales and England in the United Kingdom.

What was interesting and touching to me were the number of conservation
students who could not afford the high costs of dues to the various
conservation organizations but are hungry for conservation literature to
continue their studies and learn the latest research, tools and techniques
of their field. The same could be said for many of the people working in
institutions that do not have enough funds to purchase the conservation
literature. The small Homiman Public Museum in London, the library of the
University of Washington, the National Library of Serbia, The University of
Malta are some of the institutions who wanted these journals.

I wish I could have been helpful to everyone, but the first three
conservators who replied will receive the journals. It makes me think,
however, that other retiring conservators could offer their collections of
conservation literature to those who want them but perhaps cannot afford
them. I know of several colleagues who have simply thrown away their
journals, thinking there is no market for them. With a little time and
effort - carting the boxes to the post office has been the only real effort
- these journals can continue their lives as educational tools for the next
generation of conservators. I no longer needed my journals, and it has felt
very rewarding to pass them on to others.
