NOTIFICATION OF A 10-WEEK PAID FALL INTERNSHIP IN BOOK CONSERVATION AT THE HISTORIC ARCHITECTURE, CONSERVATION, AND ENGINEERING CENTER, NATIONAL PARK SERVICE, LOWELL, MA
The Historic Architecture, Conservation, and Engineering Center (HACE) located in Lowell, MA is pleased to offer a 10-week full-time paid fall internship in paper and book conservation beginning on or around October 7th, 2019. Beginning and end dates are flexible. The 10-week stipend is $6,000. The internship is designed for either a pre-program conservation student, with sufficient book experience or an emerging book conservator who is a recent graduate. HACE is responsible for the conservation and preservation of collections within the National Park Service’s Northeast Region. The NE Region consists of 84 National Sites and Parks extending from Virginia to Maine. Our collections include decorative arts, books, and works on paper from historic homes as well as outdoor sculptures and archaeological objects. The selected intern will work closely with HACE conservators while receiving hands-on conservation training, specifically in the repair and rehousing of books and archival materials from the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site. The materials are broad in scope and reflect the collecting practices of our 32nd President.
