Dear Madeleine, There is a variety of beautiful colored Japanese papers, made from different fibers and in different strengths, that are sold by Hiromi Paper (Color Paper Series <https://store.hiromipaper.com/collections/color-paper-series?sort_by=title-ascending>). The black papers are very matte, and a have a soft black tone that might match your historic black paper well. You would need to apply an adhesive yourself, of course.
Hope this helps, Martin Jürgens Conservator of Photographs -- Rijksmuseum Amsterdam +31 (0)20 674-7127 [email protected] <applewebdata://F4BEF3E4-C141-4941-8139-F6B0E43AD087/[email protected]> ------------------------------ Martin Juergens Photograph Conservator Rijksmuseum Amsterdam +31 20 674 7127 ------------------------------ ------------------------------------------- Original Message: Sent: 10-16-2019 21:36 From: Madeleine Price Subject: Conservation grade tapes for glass slides Hello, I'm undertaking conservation work on a collection of glass cinema slides. These are made with two glass plates adhered around the edges with gummed paper tape in a variety of colours, but mainly black. The paper is failing and I have been asked to replace it as it is going on exhibition. I am struggling to find any black conservation grade gummed paper tape, and none in the size that I need. I have come across two options. One is "Matt Decoration Tape" made by Industrial Tapes UK. It says it conservation grade but I don't even know if this would be appropriate? The second tape that I have found is not conservation grade, but instead used for photography. It is a matt black paper based tape with no residue and used on glass and negatives. Any advice? (I would use Heritage Tapes Black Tyvek tape 13mm but it is no longer in stock anywhere) Best Madeleine Reply to Sender : https://community.culturalheritage.org/eGroups/PostReply/?GroupId=481&SenderKey=b653de9d-7d0f-496f-8dc1-cc12c2a2de07&MID=9211&MDATE=756%253e46546%253e&UserKey=d16eaa87-0f69-494b-9f2f-303dbc1222e1&sKey=fab9aa4f27a04c5d876e Reply to Discussion : https://community.culturalheritage.org/eGroups/PostReply/?GroupId=481&MID=9211&MDATE=756%253e46546%253e&UserKey=d16eaa87-0f69-494b-9f2f-303dbc1222e1&sKey=fab9aa4f27a04c5d876e You are subscribed to "Global Conservation Forum (ConsDistList)" as [email protected].
