Hi Madeleine, As Meagan mentioned we ran a project at The National Archives, UK to rehouse a collection of glass lantern slides back in 2015. In the end we made up or own tape made from an acrylic toned Japanese paper and coated it on one side with a Lascaux 303 HV which was then applied using a warm heated spatula. If you have lots to replace it might make more sense to purchase a pre made tape!
I published a blog about this which you can read here: https://blog.nationalarchives.gov.uk/os-51-shining-light-glass-lantern-collection/ Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions about the project! These are made with two glass plates adhered around the edges with gummed paper tape in a variety of colours, but mainly black. The paper is failing and I have been asked to replace it as it is going on exhibition. I am struggling to find any black conservation grade gummed paper tape, and none in the size that I need. I have come across two options. One is "Matt Decoration Tape" made by Industrial Tapes UK. It says it conservation grade but I don't even know if this would be appropriate? The second tape that I have found is not conservation grade, but instead used for photography. It is a matt black paper based tape with no residue and used on glass and negatives. Any advice? (I would use Heritage Tapes Black Tyvek tape 13mm but it is no longer in stock anywhere) Best Madeleine Reply to Sender : https://community.culturalheritage.org/eGroups/PostReply/?GroupId=481&SenderKey=4b635162-c925-4a32-b750-3b85e2a3600d&MID=9263&MDATE=756%253e465477&UserKey=d16eaa87-0f69-494b-9f2f-303dbc1222e1&sKey=fab9aa4f27a04c5d876e Reply to Discussion : https://community.culturalheritage.org/eGroups/PostReply/?GroupId=481&MID=9263&MDATE=756%253e465477&UserKey=d16eaa87-0f69-494b-9f2f-303dbc1222e1&sKey=fab9aa4f27a04c5d876e You are subscribed to "Global Conservation Forum (ConsDistList)" as [email protected].
