Subject: New YouTube channel for conservation
 Message: Deart colleagues,
I have recently started a new YouTube channel dedicated to conservation,
restoration and archaeomentry. The channel will include videos in as simple
words as possible, so that they are comprehensible not only to conservators, by
also by non experts, aiming to raise awareness on the conservation and
restoration of cultural and geological heritage, and be used for educational
purposes. All videos will have subtitles in english and in greek. The link for
the channel is http://www.youtube.com/@EvangeliaConservation
<http://www.youtube.com/@EvangeliaConservation>.
Please subscribe in order to receive notifications every time an new video is
uploaded. Feel free to use the content of the channel for educational purposess
and for awareness raising.
The first two videos that have been uploaded contain the following
information:- Who is the creator of the channel?- How did an eleven-year-old
child decide to study conservation?- What is conservation about?- What is
remedial conservation and which are its stages?- What is preventive
conservation?- How do we protect an artwork, artefact, monument, building and
other objects from degradation?
Hope to see you soon in the new channel

Subject: Deadline Approaching: Changing Climate Management Strategies
Workshop, Getty Center, Los Angeles
Message: Workshop Title: Changing Climate Management Strategies: Sustainable
Collection Environments and Monitoring Object Response
When: July 7–11, 2025
Where: Getty Center, Los Angeles
Workshop fee: $800 USD (financial assistance may be available for a limited
number of participants)
Number of participants: 40 maximum

Applications due November 20, 2024

Cultural heritage institutions worldwide are increasingly under pressure to
operate in a more sustainable manner in response to the global climate crisis,
symptoms of which include rising energy costs and government mandates to reduce
carbon footprints.

Recent environmental guidance in the heritage field has also signaled a shift
away from prescriptive narrow ranges of temperature and relative humidity
towards the adoption of broader environmental parameters suitable for many
classes of objects. However, many heritage institutions have been reluctant to
adopt these wider conditions due to a lack of evidence-based risk analysis for
climate-induced damage and limited expertise on the sustainable management of
the collection environment.

This workshop, presented as part of the Getty Conservation Institute's Managing
Collection Environments Initiative
<https://www.getty.edu/projects/managing-collection-environments-initiative/>,
will address obstacles in developing and implementing more adaptive
environmental management strategies in museums. The workshop will be delivered
in person over five days at the Getty Center in Los Angeles. Supplementary
online components will be made available before and after the workshop to
deepen participant engagement.

The workshop is open to all stakeholders–conservators, registrars, curators,
directors, facilities staff, engineers, architects–who:

are involved in the decision-making process on environmental management in
museums

can directly apply lessons learned into practice, and/or

will disseminate the outcomes of the workshop (e.g., instructors and trainers)

The workshop organizers encourage applications from:

practitioners from North, Central, and South America, and from Hawaii

heritage professionals from small (1-5 staff members) and medium-sized (6-20
staff members) organizations

emerging professionals and current/recent graduate students interested in
management of the museum environment

TO APPLY: Applicants are required to complete an online application form
<https://airtable.com/app2EcFq5YyNO6JwG/pagbD0Q4d1E2H9awn/form> and upload
their curriculum vitae (CV) of no more than two pages. Further details
available at

undertaking conservation treatments and enjoys sharing stories about the
amazing objects they interact with.

As a furniture conservator or restorer, you'll use practical and scientific
restoration techniques to conserve and restore heritage furniture. You'll also

 Subject: Peruvian Archaeological Textile Workshop
Message: Join us for FAIC's "Analysis of Peruvian Archaeological Textile
Structures
<https://learning.culturalheritage.org/products/analysis-of-peruvian-archaeological-textile-structures>"
workshop with  Elena Phipps and Nilda Callañaupa Alvarez. The workshop will
take place February 11-13, 2025, at The Fowler Museum at UCLA, in Los Angeles,
CA. The workshop will focus on examining close-up a selection of Precolumbian
textiles to understand their technical features. This will include
identification of yarns spin directions and composition (though not fiber
identification at this time), selvage types (warp or weft) and structural
features including non-woven and woven constructions, both simple and complex.

Understanding the construction of Peruvian textiles enables conservators,
curators and others who work with archaeological collections, to document the
physical textiles. The information gleaned from this practice can contribute to
decisions regarding conservation treatment and preservation initiatives,
exhibition potential and systems of support, as well as contributing to studies
of cultural context and association.

Interested individuals must apply by November 26! Financial support is
available for a few participants. Learn more about the workshop here:
