I did as suggested:
$ ll /etc/e-smith/sql/init/*
ls: cannot access /etc/e-smith/sql/init/*: No such file or directory
And tried a signal-event sogo-modify. This command didn't return, I had to stop
it with ctrl-C.
/var/log/messages now shows
