You should be able to partition as you wish, like in the demo, especially
in expert mode. The text install is not quite so friendly. The bootstrap
is supposed to get made automagically if possible (ie free space) in
either mode. Can you re-create the free space, then re-run the
install, stopping at the partioning step, and get back to me either here
or directly and we can take a look at what the installer seems to think is
going on.
