kernel 2.4.4

I tried installing the kernel-2.4.4 rpm, and it gave me the message that 
it could not find the perl script /usr/local/share//mkinitrd or 
something of that nature (I'm booted into MacOS right now so I don't 
have the exact error). Is this gonna cause problems if I try and use the 
2.4.4 kernel? If so, how can I fix it?
