I had (I think) a very similar problem with an iMac 333. The only easy solution I found was to boot off the MacOS CD, run the disk setup app and create a very small partition for MacOS. I never actually loaded MacOS again, just created the partition. Then, when I booted the Mandrake PPC CD again, I did not get the 1MB boostrap error any more.
