i am still not sure mhich kernel i should use to begin with. The default
appears to support all my hardware so there is no drastic need for particular
kernel. i see benh has an ibook optimised kernel...... should i be using
that? i have the original ibook2 and want a kernel that will read hfsplus,
per the module at http://sourceforge.net/projects/linux-hfsplus.

as for actually going about compiling the kernel, 'make menuconfig' says i
need ncurses. 'urpmi ncurses' says it is already installed.

i presume urpmi is the best mandrake can offer, but i can't seem to get it to
access media other than the cd's. could someone give me an example with a
mirror?
trying to compile software, i am told cpp is not sane...

i am inexperienced with kernel's and such so i appreciate the help. sorry for
the vague questions.
