Do this in the directory with the fonts:
for i in *.TTF ; do
mv $i $i_tmp
mv $i_tmp `echo $i | tr 'A-Z' 'a-z'`
done
(the temporary file is to avoid to mess up the vfat short names, to avoid
that fooba~1.ttf becomes fooba~2.ttf; if you just move with same name
and different case it may happen)

No. It is only in the file name.
I will look at the X-TT sources. It sohuld be a one-line patch to fix it.
