ok.. tried an ftp install today from rpmfind.net just for kicks. I went expert and development twice and both times I ran into problems. I am running an AMD K6-2 333 with 64 megs ram, AWE64 sound card and a voodoo-banshee diamond monster fusion. ok.. since I don't speak code, I am going to simply type out what it said..

Both times I was able to get as far as the installation of RPMS (I haven't written down which packages I selected sorry) and began the download. The first time a message popped up on my screen:

An error occurred, but I don't know how to handle it nicely. Continue at your own risk.
        dumpkeys failed at /usr/bin/perl=intall/ keyboard.pm line 217

I can't read my handwriting but I'm sure it says intall.. Anyway, I hit ok and the installation jumped to configuring network and then proceeded to halt. Cntrl-Alt F1 provided me with more information:

      file gdkwindow.c: line 1233 (gdk_window_set_background): assertion `window = NULL ` failed. at /usr/bin/perl-install/install_steps_gtk.pm line 352, <GEN5> Chunk 73

Ok, the second time I tried ftp install expert and devel. I changed I just selected all the groups minus networking systems (I think that's it) and web server and installed 850megs of packages. In the middle of downloading it froze. I got over and over again the same error above at both lines 352 and 353. As well CTRL-ALT F3 or F4 gave me the following information:

    Progressing transaction = 384
    Done transaction.
    Error: bad file XFree86-libs-3.3.5-13mdk.i586.rpm
    Error: bad file XFree86-3.3.5-13mdk.i586.rpm

Everything froze again. This time, after rebooting, I discovered that my LILO was foobarred and had to do a fdisk /mbr. Needless to say, I'm not a professional bug reported (hehe) but I hope this makes sense to someone. I'm had successful installs of Mandrake 7.0 in the past few weeks, so I'm pretty sure the error wasn't on my part. I could be wrong though.
