OK, let's drop the argument on whether Joe Average User is stupid.
Given a smart or stupid Joe Average User, I still say that he/she does
not want to have to learn to admin his/her workstation. He/she wants to
get his/her work done, or play his/her games, or surf the Internet, or
whatever.

By selecting them in a file manager of some sort and dragging them on
top of a JPEG icon? Off the top of my head. I really don't think Joe
wants to play on the command line. I really don't.
You know what? I won't deny that some Joes will eventually go to the
command line, when he finds out how much faster he can be with it, but
initially, the Joes that come from Windows, are going to want their
GUIs.
