The USB Visor now appears in the /proc/bus/usb/devices file, and now when I use
USBView, all of the devices appear (Handspring only when trying to hotsync).
I still cannot get it to hotsync.
I did change the /etc/sysconfig/usb to VISOR=yes, and I changed a few others such as
keyboard and mouse to yes.
Previously, my Visor was located at /dev/usb/tts/1.
I followed the documentation at /usr/share/doc/pilot-link-0.11.7/README.usb.
My computer uses modprobe usb-uhci. The modprobe visor and modprobe usbserialj
produced the desired results for lsmod.
I tried mknod for both /dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/usb/tts/0, and then I did a chmod 777 for
any of the possibilites of the USB device.
In the instructions on Linux kernel Configuration, I could not find the file called
KERNEL_DIR or the .config file, so I did not know where to make those changes.
On one occasion, I did get a listing using
pilox-xfer -l /dev/usb/tts/1
This listed all of the items on my Visor. This only worked once, and when I tried it
a second time, it would not work. I ran through all of the instructions of the
README.usb twice more, but could not get the pilot-xfer to work again.
Also, every time I went to the /dev/usb/tts/ file, the permissions were always changed
to
My computer is using
I went through the documentation, and tried to follow it as closely as possible, but I
am not technical, so I may have missed something related to the kernel. When I got to
the section on "Talking to your Palm over USB" I could not get a consistent result.
Below are a part of the log files from /var/log/syslog.
Is it possible to make it easier to have a USB Palm OS PDA connect to Mandrake? This
was working perfectly with Mandrake 8.2, and seems like it is more difficult to get
the USB connection working.

With Mandrake 8.2 I could synchronize a Handspring visorPrro with Evolution, and it
was seen by USBVIEW. Now, I cannot synchronize the pilot and, the pilot is not seen
by USBVIEW. When I try to use USBVIEW to verify the connection, I receive the
following error
Can not (sic) open the file /proc/bus/usb/devices.
Verify taht you have USB compiled into your kernel, have the USB Core modules loaded,
and have the usbdevfs filesystem mounted.
I am using a USB keyboard and mouse, and both work well.
