it would appear to be a hardware problem. I tried the same cd on two diffrent
pc's and one booted and one had the error. I then tried to boot the pc with the
error with the command "linux ide1=nodma" and it work perfectly. it should work
for you aslong as your cdrom is on secondary ide channel.

description:
After booting from DISK 1 the GUI pops up, after I hit enter to start the
install I get an error. (well about 10 seconds later)

Complete Error Message:
Could not uncompress second stage ramdisk. This is probably an hardware error
while reading the data. (this may be caused by a hardware failure or a Linux
kernel bug)

After I hit OK the GUI closes and I see this on the screen:
error in exec of stage2 :-(
trying to execute '/user/bin/runinstall2' from the installation volume,
the following fatal error occurred
FATAL ERROR IN STAGE1: Exec format error
I can't recover from this.
