>From what I read on Gnome ML, they (not only Helix, but general Gnome core
developpers) regret the Red Hat patch that introduced incompatibility
in the metadata DB (dbm != glibc db) and want to remove it and just use
the standard glibc db one.

The Makefiles/config.h should be checked to ensure (or at least know) what
db we are using.
