For what it's worth, there seems to be a problem with ao and aRts
(detailed in another thread), which causes crashes after a certain
number of plays (even if you're outputting through, say, esd).  A
stopgap solution seems to be to rm /usr/lib/libao2/libarts.*, though
this will disable aRts output.
