I have never spoken to anyone who uses it for music production. In fact, most linux audio producers disable or delete it.
That's all I have to say about that.
Now on the other hand, esd sucks hard as well.
I'm a 100% pure alsa fan. Jack for hardcore music production, pure alsa for everyone else. That's my mantra.
