Indeed... my preference is for darker (especially a nice dark blue).  Of
course, I haven't used a desktop for a couple years now (even when I
used GNOME heavily, I never drew a desktop).

The main problem I have with yours is that there's too much contrast...
maybe this is because I divide my time almost equally between X and the
various consoles.
