- Is it possible to detect the TFT display capabilities you have in your laptop if XFree86 fails to start?
- Or to run only the display configuration part from the Mandrake installation?
- Or to get something better than xf86config for the console mode?
I have HP laptop with ATI Rage Mobility chipset and needed to install 9.2 beta 1 twice to get XFree86 working.
During the first install something went wrong during the display setup phase and I ended up with an installation which failed to start XFree86. I tried to run xf86config several times but was newer able to select correct compination with the display, mouse, keyboard and graphic card.
(To be honest I do not event know what keyboard I should select from the ones available in the xf86config list)
One big problem with the xf86config is that it does not offer TFT displays during the configuration.
For me the only solution seemed to try to re-install MDK 91 beta so that I could get back to the Mandrakes nice display configuration utilities.

Features that would be interesting in a laptop installation class though are: -enable powernow and speedstep module by default -enable cpufreqd by default and make it easy to configure it -make sure pcmcia and usb are loaded BEFORE network - too many times have i needed to restart my network because of that (so easy to fix as well)
