Maybe, but the problem from my standpoint isn't the stretching, it's the
choice of backgrounds. There was a really great "9.2"-only background (the
one with the numbers in the lower-right hand of the display). Now it seems
to have disappeared.

It branded the consoles without getting in the way, and it allowed the use
of any resolution without stretching poorly (since it was dark grey on
black). I don't know, but maybe it was an oversight in the latest packages
and initrd is just usng the bootsplash by default?

Is there any chance of getting back the less-obtrusive VC background? Or is
that now a hand-tweak-only option?
