Not sure where, but I can imagine these resolutions for a new image: 640 x 480 800 x 600 1024 x 768 1280 x 1024 1400 x 1050 1600 x 1200 (maybe) and possibly, markings for some common 16:10 resolutions (but many are just a mixing and matching of 4:3 widths and heights, eg 1280x800 and 1920x1200). Position it at (0, 0) on the root window, don't stretch it, and your monitor does the work for you. (Like the NT4 image, as you mentioend.) Having a color bar would be nice, too, to show that color is working. (Calibrating is a whole 'nother can of worms.) - John
