Dear Thierry,
I tried LM9.2rc2 - the same story.
I do not know which of the additional kernels provided is "multimedia": smp or
marcello. I tried both. Audio works in both. Marcello didn't recognise my ieee1394-dvd
writer at all. dmesg contains lines:
Sep 15 22:33:59 oka kernel: ieee1394: sbp2: Logged out of SBP-2 device
Sep 15 22:33:59 oka /etc/hotplug/ieee1394/sbp2: Load scsimon
Sep 15 22:33:59 oka /etc/hotplug/ieee1394/sbp2: loading ... scsimon
Sep 15 22:33:59 oka modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module scsimon
Sep 15 22:34:01 oka kernel: ieee1394: sbp2: Node 0-00:1023: Using 36byte inquiry
workaround
Sep 15 22:34:01 oka kernel: ieee1394: sbp2: Logged into SBP-2 device
Sep 15 22:34:01 oka kernel: ieee1394: sbp2: Node 0-00:1023: Max speed [S400] - Max
payload [2048]

so, perhaps, this scsimon module which is missing is responsible for the cd-drive not
to
be recognised...?

I have HP200e DVD+RW connected through IEEE1394 port. It is well recognised so I
can access it through /dev/scd1. But when I start playing an audio CD in it with KsCD,
no sound comes from the speakers. I searched the web and found that the module
amdtp is responsible for streaming the audio through IEEE1394 to the soundcard, and I
see that it is not loaded. Manually inserting it gives:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] /]# insmod amdtp
Using /lib/modules/2.4.21pre4-6mdk/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/amdtp.o.gz
