The current compile and boot problems are highly dependent on the
configuration you choose.  I find it runs ok on my PII and 486
machines as well, but these are pretty tame machines.  My only
concern is that we track linux/Documentation/Changes to ensure
we don't release a 7.x which is incompatible with Linux 2.4
